What to do
Open the full-screen map. Switch between Equal Earth and Mercator three times while observing Greenland, northern Europe, Africa and Indonesia. Record two changes and one useful property of each view.

Students recognize projection choice as a trade-off rather than a correct-versus-incorrect binary.

How can two irregular shapes be compared without relying on width or height?
What to do
Use the comparison builder to choose two countries, inspect their outlines at one equal-area scale, and test whether the ratio agrees with the visual impression.

On the map, compare the Population and Density layers. Use the Mongolia–Singapore comparison and identify why area changes the density result.

The source-year audit
Inquiry question
What must be checked before two numbers become a fair comparison?
What to do
Choose any two country profiles. Record the source and year for population, GDP or life expectancy, then decide which claims are supported and which need a same-year dataset.
Learning outcome
Students treat source, date, definition and missing data as part of the evidence—not as fine print.
Turn observation into evidence
Ask students to capture a claim, a number and a limitation for every activity. This simple structure separates what the map shows from what the student concludes and makes source-awareness assessable.
