What the latest ranking shows
The highest latest available values among EqualAtlas profiles are currently Monaco (86.5 years), San Marino (85.8 years), Hong Kong (85.4 years), Kuwait (84.6 years), Switzerland (84.4 years). This list includes ISO-coded territories as well as sovereign states, so the profile definition matters when comparing it with another ranking.
What life expectancy at birth means
Life expectancy at birth is a period measure. It summarizes the mortality rates observed at different ages into the average lifespan a newborn would experience if those rates continued. It is not a precise prediction for a particular baby.
Why years and population size matter
Health estimates are published on different schedules and can be revised. Small populations may also show more year-to-year volatility because a relatively small number of events can affect the rate.
EqualAtlas displays the latest imported year for every profile and labels missing values rather than estimating them silently.
What a national average conceals
The same national average can contain large differences by sex, income, location, ethnicity or access to healthcare. Life expectancy is a valuable summary indicator, but explaining causes requires more detailed evidence than a country ranking alone.
