Equal Earth preserves area. If one region covers twice as much of the planet as another, it also occupies twice the area on the map. That makes it particularly useful for global thematic maps and country-size comparisons.
What it still distorts
No flat map can preserve area, shape, distance and direction everywhere at once. Equal Earth does not make every coastline perfectly shaped or every route equally measured. Its core promise is narrower and clearer: fair relative area.

EqualAtlas is built around questions of footprint, population and global comparison. Starting with an equal-area view prevents projection scale from silently weighting high-latitude countries more heavily.
